Meeting of the Turkmen-Bulgarian Intergovernmental Commission

A meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Bulgarian Intergovernmental Commission for economic cooperation took place at the conference hall of the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan. The representative delegation of the Republic of Bulgaria led by Minister of Economy and Energy of Bulgaria Dragomir Stoynev arrived in the Turkmen capital to take part in the meeting.

Heads, specialists and experts of leading industries of friendly countries, including the sphere of transport and energy, information and communication technologies, agriculture, investments, etc. participated in the meeting.

Meeting participants specified the key areas of cooperation. Among them are including the fuel and energy sector, transport and communication sphere, construction, textile industry, agriculture, trade as well as entrepreneurship were specified during the meeting. As was noted, at present, over 20 joint investment projects are implemented in Turkmenistan, the trade turnover between the two countries increases particularly due to increasing the volumes of export of oil products, cotton fibre, cotton yarn and fabrics as well as clothes produced in Turkmenistan.

Prospects for concluding new intergovernmental agreements and treaties with the aim to widen the legal basis of cooperation. In this regard, meeting participants exchanged their views about protection on such issues as protection of investments, taxes as well as exchange of information on technical cooperation and taxes, international cargo and passenger traffic, information technologies and communication, cooperation between the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and the Business Support Centre for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Bulgaria.

The opportunities for implementing joint projects in energy infrastructure, sea transport as well as agricultural sector were also discussed during the meeting. Particular attention was paid to enhancing the volumes of exporting textile and carpet articles produced in Turkmenistan to foreign markets. Meeting participants also expressed interest in widening relations in the sphere of education, science, healthcare, tourism and sport.
