Turkmenistan Economy Day in Paris that provided a platform for arranging an exhibition of the achievements of Turkmen economy became a prologue to a new stage of bilateral cooperation. Certain steps taken in the framework of the event to work out the joint programme of action allow affirming it with confidence.
The forum was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and France-Turkmenistan Chamber of Commerce jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development of the French Republic.
More than 25 ministries and departments and the members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs presented the economic and investment potential of Turkmenistan in Paris. France was represented by the government agencies and key institutions, including foreign policy and foreign trade departments, the major French companies, which, in fact, ‘pioneered’ Western businesses into Turkmen market at the dawn of the independent development of our country. This word was frequently and proudly uttered during the forum by our partners, who, judging by the content of their presentations, were seeking to revive the ‘pilot’ status in the new capacity oriented to partnership in the high-tech sector.
An illustrative example is cooperation that Turkmenistan promotes with Thales in such an important field as aerospace technology. As is known, the French company built the first national satellite of Turkmenistan, has equipped and continues to equip modern airport facilities in our country.
The French companies that participated in Turkmenistan Economy Day events, along with the corporations well known in our country, such as Bouygues, Vinci, Schneider Electric, Total, Cifal, Systra, Dresser that cooperates with Turkmenistan in the construction, oil and gas, energy, trade and consulting, sectors, included the largest engineering company, one of the world’s energy and rail equipment manufacturers Alstom and the European aerospace corporation Airbus Group headquartered in Paris.
In her closing remarks, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Fleur Pellerin noted that France stood ready to promote bilateral cooperation in new fields given market demand in Turkmenistan. In her opinion, the objectives and economic development programmes and the sustainable development strategies of Turkmenistan provided favourable prospects for cooperation between our countries in the sectors, in which France has advantages and ranks in the top position in the world.
Addressing the closing ceremony of Turkmenistan Economy Day, an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development noted that Minister Laurent Fabius said that France viewed Turkmenistan as a key link in relations with the Central Asian region, the country whose potential dictates the need for closer business contacts. He also added that after his visit to our country in 2013 L. Fabius continuously reminded French diplomats of the the importance of this vector of cooperation, emphasizing its role in promoting international economic relations of France.
It should be noted that the economic forum aroused keen interest among French companies as well as business organisations of other countries. Their representatives in Paris, who visited our exhibition that became some kind of report on the work done for many years, took THE opportunity to establish new contacts.
The forum provided a platform for holding a series of bilateral talks that highlighted a strong interest of French business circles in promoting cooperation with our country in trade, industrial, investment and other sectors.
