The State Committee for Tourism and Sports announced the best athletes of Turkmenistan in 2011.
17 boys and girls are the best athletes who gained the outstanding achievements in the world sports arena last year. Weightlifters Umurbek Bazarbaev, Daniyar Ismailov and Tolkunbek Hudaybergenov headed this prestigious list. The victory the team of Turkmen weightlifters won in the World Championship in Paris brought three quota places in the London 2012 Olympic Games for the first time in the history of Turkmen sport. Umurbek Bazarbaev, the leader of our squad ranked among the top five sportsmen in the under 62 kg category. The year 2011 turned to be very successful for a 19-year-old debutant of the World Championships from Turkmenabat D. Ismailov who won the bronze medal of the U20 World Championships in Penang (Malaysia).
Along with the weightlifters Arslan Orashev (Greco-Roman wrestling), Hojamuhammet Toychiev (weightlifting), Kiyas Esenov and Amanali Ataev (Greco-Roman wrestling), Nursahat Pazzyev (boxing), Gulnar Hayitbaeva (judo), Guvanch Atabaev, Dovletmurad Sapargeldyev, Ihtier Matkerimov and Seyitjan Mirzoev (weightlifting), Shamered Hallyev and Chary Charyev (kick-boxing), Terkesh Ayazov and Yagshimurad Annamuradov (belt wrestling) were announced the best athletes of Turkmenistan in 2011.
