Turkmen tennis players’ success

The 10th ITF tennis tournament was held on the courts of the Olympic Stadium to mark the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan independence. The competitions organized by the State Committee for Tourism and Sports of Turkmenistan and the National Tennis Centre brought together tennis players under 18 years old from Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

A participant of the Junior Wimbledon 2009, a student of the International Turkmen-Turkish University Anastasia Prenko, who was the first Turkmen sportswoman to appear in the WTA women’s tennis world rankings, demonstrated sportsmanship in the matches of the10th ITF tennis tournament. The leader of the Turkmen team defeated her rivals from Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in singles and retained the title of the Champion of the Ashgabat International Tournament for the fifth year.

A. Prenko and A. Pomyatinskaya successfully played in doubles (Russia) and ranked the first.

A. Ernepesov, who qualified to the semi-final, was the best among the Turkmen tennis players in junior’s singles. He and J. Ilmuradov ranked the first in men’s doubles.
