Our compatriots successfully performed at the international chess tournament held recently in Moscow. Turkmen masters of intellectual game returned Motherland with two gold, silver and bronze medals. At that, 19-year old Maksat Atabayev became the first Turkmen chess player, who fulfilled the qualifying standard of International Grand Master in an early age.
International tournament, where leading chess players from Holland, Belgium, Republic of Togo, Russia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and other countries took part in, was held in “Sokolniki” sports complex. Medals were played in three normative groups - International Grand Master, international masters and rating group.
M. Atabayev raised the highest step of podium in the first group of participants, where the most experienced chess players performed. But, in spite of his young age, the international master from Turkmenistan accumulated seven points from nine possible, having completed 6 games with victorious results: 2- in a draw and one – in favor of opponent.
The second gold award for Turkmenistan was gained by young chess player in our team – 15-year old master of FIDE Saparmurat Atabayev. He gained this success in the group of international masters, having accumulated 7 points from 9 possible.
Silver and bronze awards were gained by the residents of Turkmenistan in rating group: master of sport Kurbangeldi Amangeldiyev (6.5 points) became vice-champion and master of sport Rustam Nazarov won the third place.
