In the capital’s draughts sports school of the city sport committee, it was completed the Draughts Championship of Turkmenistan among juniors born in 2001-2004 as well as started the Chess Championship of Turkmenistan among young successors of this ancient game. In draughts, it was played 4 sets of medals – two in the contests on hundred-square playing field and two – on sixty four-square.
The representatives of combined teams of Akhal, Lebap, Dashoguz, Mary provinces and Ashgabat have competed for the title of the best. Young draught players from the eastern region, who gained victories in both disciplines, demonstrated the best skills of tactical game.
Sportsmen from all regions of the country take part in Chess Championship of Turkmenistan started on July 20. Among them is also the reigning champion of the country among men, entering the major league, international master from Ashgabat M. Atabayev, who is main pretender for the victory.
Current contests for young chess player are one of the last stages of preparation for the World Chess Olympics to be held in next month in Norwegian city Tromsø. M. Atabayev will play on the first chessboard in composition of our national team.
