Chess occupies a special place in the sports life of Ahal Velayat. That is vividly proved by the achievements of Ahal Velayat sportsmen in national tournaments and international competitions. Another evidence is that the first competition held in a new sports school opened in T. Bayramdurdyev Peasant Association in Geoktepe Etrap was a chess tournament.

Last weekend, the sports school hosted the Baharly Etrap Chess Contest. Sisters Byagul Tagandurdyeva and Ogulmengly Tagandurdyeva won the first and second places among girls, and D. Charyyarov, A. Annaberdiev, and A. Temirov demonstrated the best results among boys.

Students of the sports school in Baharly Etrap are among the leaders of national chess contests. Hurma Velieva is the winner of the national tournaments in various age groups, as well as the winner of the Championship of Turkmenistan among women of the first league.

H. Velieva won a bronze medal in Hungary in May, 2014. Last year, she represented our country at the World Universiade in Kazan, the Russian Federation, and at present she is preparing for the 2014 World Junior Chess Championship to be held in Pune, India on October 5-20. Another Turkmen sportsmen from Baharly Etrap - Maksat Atabaev will also represent our country at the World Championship.

Students of Baharly Etrap Sports School also achieve high results in other sports.
