In Chinese Nanking city where it takes place the second Juniors’ Olympic Games, Turkmen athletes achieved “bronze” success in wushu competitions- ancient kind of martial arts that presented in the Games as an exhibition decipline. In the result of competitions, Merjen Saparova who performed in class “sanda” (single combat) in the weight category up to 52 kg won the third place. Merjen is the 9th Grade student of comprehensive school #7 of Kunyaurgench district of Dashoguz province.
In Nanking Olympic Games, Turkmen athletes performed in other sports disciplines- weight lifting, swimming and freestyle wrestling as well.
Weightlifter from Sakarchage district (Mary province) Sohbet Tirkishov took the fourth place in the weight category up to 62 kg. The athlete's performance in the snatch - 115 kg, in the jerk 137 kg. He completed his performance with total sum 252 kg in the snatch.
In swimming competitions, Turkmenistan was represented by Merjen Sariyeva who performed in two disciplines -50 meters in butterfly stroke and 50 meters in freestyle, where she, as a year ago in the IV Indoor and martial arts Asian Games that took place in Korean Inchon city set up personal best time 31,49 sec. and 29,50 sec, correspondingly. On her returning, M.Sariyeva have to prepare to the classic Asian Games that will take place in the next month in the Republic of Korea.
