Asian Games started several days ago in the Korean city Inchon accelerate their paces. It is worth mentioning that already in début of complex competitions, the sport attainments of Turkmenistan have replenished with silver medal: master of sports of international category Gulbadam Babamuratova won the title of vice-champion on judo. On next day, her clubmate – Zuhra Madraimova also showed the high result, being in the top five judoists of Asia in weight class up to 57 kilograms. Umurbek Bazarbayev was a step from medal, having won honorable fourth place in the weight lifting contests (up to 62 kg).

Attainment of our swimmer – Merdan Atayev, who performed in discipline 100 meters by backstroke, is worth of particular attention. He was able to overpass confidently the preliminary part of competitions and reach the final.

Besides the final début, the result of the Turkmen swimmer was marked with two record indices. Having swum 100-meter backstroke within 56.63 seconds, M. Atayev improved his record more than 2 seconds and the national, which was kept several decades. In sprint of 50 meters on backstroke, he established personal and national records. Here, Merdan needed in 0.1 seconds to reach the final stage. He was in the top ten of swimmers of Asia.


In wushu competitions, Salaheddin Bairamov performed in weight class 65 kg and won a victory over sportsman from Pakistan. Jennet Aynazarova in weight class 60 kg won the athlete from Nepal. Both of our sportsmen pretend no less than to bronze medals.

On September 23 and 24, Sergey Krovyakov will represent Turkmenistan in the swimming contests. He has to compete for the final in two disciplines – 50 and 100 meters by freestyle.

Zuhra Madraimova was in the top five judoists of Asia in weight class up to 57 kilograms. Having appeared after preliminary stage in “consolatory” group, which competed for bronze medals, she won two confident victories over opponents from Taiwan and Thailand. In the contest for the third place, she couldn’t overcome the athlete from Mongolia. She won the fifth place.

Fight for medals of XVII Asian Games is going on. Besides aforementioned kinds of sport, the Turkmen residents also perform in volleyball, boxing, tennis, taekwondo (WTF version), cycling, wushu, track and field, sport wrestling (freestyle and Greco-roman) and karate. Asian Games will continue till October 4.
