The IX International Book Fair "The Book is the Way to Cooperation and Progress" took place at the Exhibition Centre in Ashgabat.
The book forum was organized by Turkmen State Publishing Service and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan. Over 150 representatives of publishing industries and business and literary circles from 20 countries of world arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the forum.
Top managers, designers and developers represented more than 60 publishing houses and printing companies, manufacturers of printing equipment, commercial firms and higher educational institutions from the United States, Great Britain, Austria, Germany, Russia, Turkey, China, South Korea, Iran, India, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Romania, Albania, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Moldova, among others. The delegations consisted of well-known writers, translators and interpreters, scientists, illustrators, journalists and specialists of government institutions and major research and educational institutions, including University of California, Oxford University, Moscow State University of Printing Arts of Ivan Fedorov and Moscow State University.
The opening ceremony of the book fair brought together the cabinet ministers, the heads of Mejlis, ministries and departments, the heads of diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited in Turkmenistan, scientists, cultural and art workers, media representatives and students.
The large-scale exhibition of printed materials published in many languages of the world, publishing novelties and design technologies was arranged in the spacious halls of the Exhibition Centre.
A wide range of products of Turkmenistan's publishing and printing industries was presented by major state-owned enterprises and private companies.
The Ashgabat book forum is distinguished for the high research and educational level and the richness of content of the printed materials displayed. A variety of scientific, educational and children's literature, fiction, books on art and history, visual aids and photo albums were presented in the pavilions of state institutions and research and education centres, publishing houses and commercial enterprises from many countries of the world.
