High-altitude marathon in Gokdere

In picturesque Gokdere gorge near Ashgabat, the alpinist club “Agama” organized annual mass ascents of the alpinists and lovers of mountain tourism. Competitions were held with support of the Children’s Fund at the Central Council of Youth Organization of Turkmenistan named after Magtymguly.


Nearly 200 lovers of active kinds of sport (including children from 4 years old and their parents), schoolchildren and teachers, members of alpinist clubs from Ashgabat and Balkanabat, workers of the capital’s enterprises and organizations, youth interested in mountain kinds of sport took part in mass ascent of one of the peaks of mountain range Dushak marked on the map of Kopetdag Mountains as Harlasang (1643 m). Disabled persons, who got health-improving loads and positive psychological emotions, also took part in the event. Organizers of competitions – members of alpinist club “Agama” provided the safety control and established the first aid-posts.


Skyrunning is one of new disciplines in alpinism: high-altitude kilometer – race with 1000 –meter ascent in mountainous area. In this year, international competitions on Skyrunning took place in Elbrus (5632 m, Russia) and in Matterhorn (4478 m, Switzerland), where over 1500 alpinists of various world countries took part in.


Turkmen alpinist Alikper Ahmedov (“Agama” club) became the prize-winner of these international competitions in Matterhorn. But in heat on Harlasang with the result 1.12 hours, he was satisfied with third place. The winner of this contest became young sportsman – member of alpinist club “Mert” from Balkanabat Vladislav Aliyev with result of 1.05 hours. The second place was gained by sportsman from the USA Zik Zital.
