A regular meeting of Intergovernmental Turkmen-Kazakh Commission for economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation was held in Ashgabat. The representative delegation led by Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Vladimir Shkolnik arrived in the Turkmen capital to take part in the meeting.
The agenda of the meeting that was also attended by the heads and leading specialists of a number of ministries and departments of the two friendly countries included a wide spectrum of issues related to the implementation of the existing intergovernmental agreements as well as the priority areas of the further development of the efficient cooperation between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
In particular, summing up the outcomes of work of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Kazakh Commission for economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation, the main goal of which is to promote the comprehensive development of the intergovernmental dialogue, the meeting participants noted that the key decisions taken during the previous session taken place in Astana this June, were successfully implemented.
The meeting participants exchanged their views on the prospects of development of the bilateral trade and economic cooperation. In this regard, it was underlined the necessity to take additional measures with the aim to increase the number of export and import transactions and wide the range of goods and services delivered as well as to establish direct contacts between the economic subjects of the two states. It was agreed to hold a meeting of a special working group and business forum with participation of the business circles of the two states.
The gas industry, including the implementation of the project on the construction of the third section of the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China main gas pipeline, as well as agriculture and fishery, exchange of experience and advanced technologies in the sphere of plant-growing, selection, and grain crops industry were specified among the priority areas for partnership.
Particular attention was paid to the cooperation in the transport sector. It was noted that the Uzen-Bereket-Etrek-Gorgan new railway, a key part of the North-South transnational transport corridor that will be put into operation in the near future, would become an efficient ‘bridge’ between Europe and Asia and would offer a powerful incentive to the further development of the mutually beneficial trade and economic relations.
Speaking about the growing mutual interest in enhancing the traditional ties based on friendly and good neighbourly relations, the members of the Commission also discussed the tasks on the development and improvement of the contractual and legal basis of the bilateral partnership between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
The meeting participants underlined the significance of strengthening and widening humanitarian ties, first of all in the sphere of education, science and culture as an important component of the Turkmen-Kazakh relations through organizing creative forums and days of culture. It was also emphasized the importance of the close collaboration in environment control.
