In “Saphan Hin” park at the very edge of Andaman Sea along rocky coast of Thai island Phuket, it was held the solemn opening ceremony of IV Asian Beach Games.
The opening ceremony was held on the sandy stadium for game in flag-football similar with Rugby football. By means of the theatrical performances and decorations, the organizers of this colorful action told about history of Phuket. Organizing committee of IV Asian Beach Games approved the official symbol of Asian Games – three marine turtles Sakorn, Sintu and Samut, which reflect the union of the elements of water and land.
The Games hosted nearly 6 thousand sportsmen from over 40 countries, which compete for medals in 29 kinds of sports. In two of them – sambo and jujitsu, it has been determined the winners and prize-winners. Among them are the Turkmen athletes as well.
Our compatriots gained particular success in the fighting competitions. It is worth mentioning that in sambo tournament, the athletes of Honored Coaches of Turkmenistan Dortguly Tejenov and Cemengul Geldibayeva won the gold, silver and bronze medals in the individual event as well as gained the second place in the team championship “wall to wall”.
Master of sport of international class Gulbadam Babamuratova replenished the sport attainments of our country with two medals – the gold and silver.
Students of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan Amina Khalliyeva and Rushana Nurjovova demonstrated the efficient holds of attack and defense in our team. During competitions, the Turkmen duet – the athletes of Honored Coaches of Turkmenistan Ata Adayev and Rustem Imamkuliyev won two victories over opponents from Kazakhstan and Philippines and yielded in two games.
After two days of competitions, the national team of Turkmenistan takes the sixth line in the team event. It is not bad result, taking into account a large number of teams.
From tomorrow, Asian Games start the most intensive stage and it means that fight for medals will become sharper. Masters of basketball, handball, kurash wrestling and freestyle wrestling will conduct the first matches, where the Turkmen sportsmen will take part in. Our team will also participate in the competitions of the beach version of petank game.
On November 16, it will be started the competitions on volleyball and on the 18th of November, the Turkmen group will compete for medals in the Thai boxing tournament.
