Turkmen basketball players defeated their rivals from the Maldives and automatically qualified for the quarter-finals together with seven top Asian teams in the 3x3 basketball event.


Along with the team of Turkmenistan, Group A includes the national teams of Oman, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the Maldives and Qatar. As was reported, the men’s team of Turkmenistan held two matches. Our sportsmen played with Oman team in the first match. Our basketball players kept ahead of their opponents during the match, but the Omani basketball players made several successful attacks at the last minute of the match and could swing the game in their favour 14-13. In the second match with the 2013 Asian Games winners – Afghanistan, Turkmen basketball players defeated their opponents 10-7.


In the second match of the day, our sportsmen didn’t put all their efforts in competing versus the team of Qatar but used the time to master their skills.

On November 18, Turkmen athletes will compete versus the strongest Asian team – the national team of India for the right to play in the semi-final.

As of now, the national team of Turkmenistan has won nine medals – one gold, three silver, and five bronze medals.
