At IV Asian Beach Games in Phuket, it was completed the contests on basketball, where the Turkmen sportsmen preserved the place in the top eight of the strongest teams of Asia, as well as started the competitions on Thai boxing, where 7 wrestlers – five in male group and two – in female represent our country.
As we have informed, our basketball players overcame the group stage, having won victories over national teams of Afghanistan and Maldives. At that, the victory over owners of gold medals of the last Asian Beach Games (China-2012) – the Afghan team didn’t allowed the basketball players of the friendly country to overcome the group stage.
Today, on the way to the medals, the national team of India – one of the strongest to date the teams of Asia in basketball discipline “3x3” stopped the athletes of Orazmyrat Esenov. “Silver” gained by them at the current Games in Phuket is a vivid evidence of this fact.
Turkmen basketball players plan to spend the remain days to the completion of competitions here not on the wonderful coast of Andaman Sea, but on the sport grounds, meeting with strong opponents: the leadership of our national team carries on the negotiations with the teams of other countries on unofficial matches, which are important for improvement of sport mastery and gaining of valuable tournament experience essential for great victories.
Contests on Thai boxing are held on the most popular beach of Phuket Island – Patong beach. Performances of sportsmen are of great interest for viewers, who became today the witnesses of exciting fights held in accordance with traditions under tune of “alive” Thai music.
In the composition of Turkmen team, the starting duel was held by Nurgeldi Atayev (weight class up to 63.5 kilograms). His opponent was the sportsman from Lebanon, who reached the semifinal cycle of competitions. On November 19, other Turkmen wrestlers will get involved in fight for medals. Competitions on Thai boxing will last until November 22.
