The 12th World Belt Wrestling Championship and First World Championship on Turkmen National Wrestling “Goresh” started in Ashgabat.
Opening ceremony of World Championship was held in “Galkynysh” physical and health-improving complex, where during three days, nearly 200 sportsmen will compete for the title of the strongest wrestlers of the world.
At Ashgabat World Championship, in four kinds of program, it is played 27 sets of medals. Turkmenistan in the capacity of organizer of the championship put forward two composition of team, which includes 53 persons (43 men and 10 women).
The first day of competitions brought for residents of Turkmenistan 16 medals (five gold, six silver and five bronze). All of them were gained in freestyle belt wrestling, where in contrast to classic, it is allowed conducting the holds by means of legs. The fact that in four of nine weight classes the finals turned out the Turkmen testifies about serious advantage of our sportsmen over opponents.
On November 22, the representatives of classic style of belt wrestling will compete for medals. It will be also determined the strongest in three female weight classes of freestyle wrestling.
On November 23 – the final day of competitions, it will be known the first world champions in the Turkmen national wrestling “goresh”.
