Meeting of executive committee of the International Belt wrestling Federation timed to the holding of World Belt Wrestling Championship and First World Championship on Turkmen National Wrestling “Goresh” was held in Ashgabat. Our correspondent has met with the President of this international sport organization Ruslan Mahmutov.
– Ruslan Rashidovich, how do you estimate the realized work on preparation for world championship?
– Preparation for the world championship is a long process and it was started in advance. First of all, I would like to note a huge work done by the Government of Turkmenistan, workers of the State Committee of Turkmenistan for sports as well as attention paid by the President of your country Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the organization of the championship. Members of executive committee of the International Belt wrestling Federation, coaches, sportsmen and referees of the championship from many world countries are grateful today to the hosts of competitions for good welcome and accommodation in one of modern hotels of Ashgabat, creation of comfortable conditions for recreation and work. I would like to express my admiration with new buildings of the capital of Turkmenistan. Only economically strong state can allow itself such scale of construction of social facilities. On behalf of all guests – participants of the world championship, I would like to thank the Turkmen people for hospitality.
– What can you say about level of the Turkmen sport?
– I am really impressed that Turkmenistan is not limited only with popularization of physical culture and sports. In June of this year, I was your guest and was able to familiarize with the state of development of sports. You are lucky that Turkmenistan is headed by wise state figure – President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who excellently understands that the highest value of the society is physically strong and spiritually rich person. Owing to his personal example, he involves all population in training of physical culture and sports. Intensive construction of sport facilities is carried out in Turkmenistan. I had an opportunity to familiarize with the construction process of the Olympic Township, which strikes with its scale and modern technical designs. It has no equal in the region. I was witness of construction of many modern sport schools in the country, where young sportsmen improve sport mastery. It is the evidence of concern about future generation, about future victories on the sport arenas of the world. I am very glad that all educational and preschool institutions built within the last years in your country have well-equipped gyms, basketball and volleyball grounds, swimming pools, tennis courts and other halls for training in many kinds of sports.
Speaking concretely about belt wrestling, it is worth mentioning that the Turkmen sportsmen take one of the leading positions on the world arena. Rating of national team of Turkmenistan is one of the highest. Participating in different international competitions, the Turkmen belt wrestlers become the owners of gold and other medals. In the current world championship, I wish all athletes great successes. May the strongest win!
