WHO/Europe and the Global Health Programme at the Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland jointly with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan organize an international course on the health diplomacy for the executives in the Turkmen capital.
The representative delegation of international experts, who will deliver lectures and present reports, arrived in Turkmenistan to take part in the forum. Among them are the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (Director of the WHO course), WHO/Europe representatives, scientists from Switzerland, as well as heads and specialists of the core medical and diplomatic structures in Serbia, the Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Representatives of various ministries of Turkmenistan, higher educational institutions, medical establishments and other organisations participate in the seminar.
The five-day seminar will focus on the prospects for cooperation within the World Health Organisation as well as other international institutions and between the ministries of health.
The course programme includes the discussions of the ways of joint work to struggle against noncommunicable diseases with the focus on the Ashgabat Declaration on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases in the Context of Health 2020 Programme adoted during the Ashgabat conference.
Foreign experts will also deliver lectures to the students and teachers of a number of higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan at the International University of Humanitarian Sciences and Development, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the State Medical University of Turkmenistan.
