Turkmen athletes won about 100 medals in the international tournaments, which took place in November this year, including the competitions held in our country. The outstanding achievements certainly include the triumph of Turkmen sportsmen at the 12th World Wrestling Championship in and the 1st World Goresh Championship: our team ranked first in the team event, having left far behind their main opponents – the teams of Russia and Ukraine.

Their achievements were more than impressive: 45 medals, of them 16 are gold, 14 – silver and 15 – bronze. When evaluating the performance of Turkmen wrestlers, certain regularities can be noticed. For example, International Master of Sports Gulbadam Babamuratova, who won the first gold medal for our team of belt wrestlers in the under 52 kilogramme category of the women’s tournament, took ‘gold’ at the IV Asian Beach Games, which took place in Phuket, Thailand a few days before the Ashgabat championship.

This multisport event can also be regarded as very successful as Turkmen athletes won 11 medals – 1 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze – in this international tournament.

Turkmen sportsmen won the silver and bronze medals in the self-defence without weapons category of the World Sport and Combat Sambo Championships, which took place in the Japanese city of Narita in November, involving over 80 countries of the world.

Currently, representatives of the Federation of Martial Arts of Turkmenistan are preparing for another major international tournament: the jiu-jitsu competitions, which will take place in the Kazakh city of Almaty on December 12-14.

The achievements of Turkmen chess players in an international sport arena are worth mentioning. These include the Asian Youth U14, U16, U18 Championships, which took place in New Delhi, India. Our compatriots won the gold and silver medals in the blitz tournament.

The performance of our chess players in the international blitz tournament, which was held in Moscow in late November, was a success. The masters of the intellectual sport from Turkmenistan won 4 medals – 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. It should be noted that Turkmenistan occupied all the podium places in the men’s team tournament.
