SPECA meeting

Ninth session of Governing Council of the UN Special Program for economics of the Central Asia (SPECA), which is realized at the organizational and expert support of the UN European Economic Commission and UN Economic and Social Commissions for Asia and Pacific Ocean, was held in Turkmenistan.

At the meeting, it was considered the results of Economic Forum SPECA of 2014 “Improvement of communication possibilities: key contribution of SPECA to the success “Decades of transformation” of Afghanistan” held the day before, as well as discussed the issues connected with activity within the framework of Program since time of previous session of Governing Council of SPECA.

Agenda of a regular session of the Governing Council also included the discussion of proposal in support of improvement of communication possibilities between Afghanistan and Central Asia.

Positively appreciating the constructive policy of neutral Turkmenistan and its significant initiatives aimed at maintenance of peace, security and welfare in the regional and global scale, the participants noted important role of the Turkmen state in activation of fruitful cooperation in the region.

In the course of the meeting, it was also held the view exchange on state and prospects of activity of Project workgroups, which submitted to the consideration of Governing Council the reports on activity realized within the framework of SPECA Program.

One of the topics of the meeting became the determination of the date and venue of holding in 2015 of the 10th session of SPECA Governing Council as well as it was held the elections of the country for presidency in the coming period.
