Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe sent the letter to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov inviting the Turkmen leader to participate in the Third Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction. The conference organized by the United Nations will take place in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, from 14 to 18 March 2015.
Japan hosted the First and Second World Conferences. In particular, the Second World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction was a great success for the adoption of the Hyogo Framework for Action for 2005-2015 that served as the international guidance on disaster risk reduction.
The letter addressed to the President of Turkmenistan says in particular that the upcoming World Conference has vital importance since it will consider the progress in implementing the Hyogo Framework for Action and adopt the new one.
Sendai that will receive the participants in the Third World Conference suffered severe damage as a result of the devastating earthquake in eastern Japan.
Measures were taken in the past three years after the disaster to restore the earthquake-impacted areas, including the city of Senda.
Expressing gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for sending the heartfelt words of encouragement after the earthquake, the Prime Minister of Japan noted that the upcoming conference was of vital importance with regard to an exchange of experience and knowledge on the restoration of earthquake-impacted areas and thus would contribute to global efforts to reduce disaster risk as a global challenge, the urgency of which becomes increasingly apparent.
