Eight medals of Turkmen weightlifters in the Asian Championship plus a bronze medal in the international tournament are the first awards that Turkmen athletes have won in an international sports arena in 2015. The Asian Championship was held in Doha, Qatar, where our athletes won three silver and five bronze medals. Before the Asian Championship, our sportsmen won the bronze medal in the Second Qatar Weightlifting Cup. 9 medals in total.

The Asian Championship brought together about 200 weightlifters from over 20 countries of the world. Turkmenistan was represented by three athletes, and all of them returned home with medals.

Muhammednur Jannyev, who performed in the junior age group (17-20 years old) in the under 94 kilogrammes weight category, achieved the most significant result in our team. The student of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism rose three times to the second stage of the podium. M. Jannyev excelled in all the disciplines of weightlifting: he posted 140 kilogrammes in the snatch, 165 kilogrammes in the clean and jerk and 305 kilogrammes in the double event.

Nurmuhammet Toichiev, who performed in the youngest age group (under 17) in the over 94 kilogrammes category, won three bronze medals. His results are 106 kilogrammes in the snatch, 137 kilogrammes in the clean and jerk and 243 kilogrammes in the double event. The success of the 16-year-old athlete is particularly impressive as he has made his debut in an international sports arena in Doha.

Muhammed Dovranov, who represented our country in the junior age group in the under 77 kilogrammes weight category, won two bronze medals: he posted 166 kilogrammes in the clean and jerk, which enabled him to post 302 kilogrammes in the double event. The fact that our compatriot took the lead over the prize winner of the 2013 Asian Championship from China and the prize winner of the 2014 World Junior Olympic Games from Kazakhstan testifies to the great prospects of the Turkmen weightlifter.

Our young athletes are to prepare under the supervision of the chief coach of the national team of Turkmenistan Kurbandurdy Amanov for other major international competitions. Lima, Peru will host the World Youth Weightlifting Championship in April and young athletes from all over the world will compete for medals in Warsaw, Poland, in June.

... Over 100 sportsmen – the strongest weightlifters of the planet who won medals of different value in championships and international tournaments – participated in the Qatar Weightlifting Cup. The best of the best in the competitions included a representative of our country Dayanch Ashyrov – the bronze medallist of the World Junior Weightlifting Championship, held in Kazan, Russian Federation last summer.

In Qatar, the student of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism repeated his achievement, having won the bronze medal in the double event in the under 77 kilogrammes weight category. His result – 314 kilogrammes – exceeds by 3 kilogrammes the result he had achieved in the World Championship.

This year has marked the transfer from the junior to the adult age category for D. Ashirov. He will participate as a member of Turkmenistan team in the Asian Championship, which will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal in July.

The main competitions will be held in Houston, United States in November this year. The American city will host the World Weightlifting Championship, which is the Olympic Qualification event for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. Turkmen athletes are going to compete for four benches in the major sporting event of the planet.

The successful performance of our weightlifters in the 2014 Asian Games, held in Incheon, Korea, where our team ranked second in the team tournament, and a good start of 2015, the very first days of which our weightlifters brought home the first nine medals, inspire confidence that this objective will be achieved.
