The State Committee for Sports of Turkmenistan summed up the year of 2014 and announced the names of ten top athletes of the country. The competition for the right to be among the top sportsmen was so strong that taekwondo practitioners, who won 24 medals of the World Cup and, and kick boxers, who won 17 awards including 10 gold medals at prestigious international tournaments, were not included into the cherished list.
International Master of Sports Gulbadam Babamuratov, who won a gold medal of the Belt Wrestling World Championship and a silver medal of the Asian Games in Korea, tops the list.
Boxers – International Masters of Sports Serdar Hudayberdiyev and Aziz Bebitov, who won a bronze medals of the Asian Games in Korea, are on the second and third places in the list respectively.
A bronze winner of the Greco-Roman wrestling tournament of the Asian Games Shermet Permanov is on the fourth place.
Wushu practitioner from Ashgabat Salahetdin Bayramov, a bronze winner of the Asian Games in Korea is the top fifth sportsman in the list.
His clubmate – Jennet Aynazarova, who won the third place at the complex Games in Korea, ranks the sixth in the list.
Tirkeshgeldi Ayazov from Geoktepe, Ahal Velayat, who took a decisive victory in the belt wrestling under the 62-kg weighting category, ranks the seventh.
Another sportsman from Ahal – Saparmurat Atabayev is the eighth top athlete in the list.
This 16-year-old sportsman gained many visctories in various chess contests. Saparmurat has to get one more point to won the title of the International Master of Sports. And if it happens this year then S. Atabayev would be the youngest Turkmen chess player to get this high sports title.
Two strongest powerlifters of the country – Valentina Simakova and Sergey Meladze, who won silver medals of the Asian Paralympic Games, which were held upon completion of the classical Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, are on the ninth and tenth positions in the list.
