Early in the morning, a humanitarian cargo was sent to neighbouring Afghanistan from the Turkmen capital. In accordance with the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan, humanitarian aid, in particular foodstuffs and school furniture is delivered to citizens residing in the border districts of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Within the last years, our country has taken an active part in the peaceful revival of Afghanistan contributing to its social and economic development. In accordance with bilateral agreements, Turkmenistan, as the closest neighbour of Afghanistan, implements a number of projects providing the people of Afghanistan with electricity and liquefied gas on a preferential basis.

In recent years, our specialists have implemented a number of contracts on construction of power supply facilities, including substations and power transmission lines, which network will be expanded in the future. Turkmenistan also provides aid to Afghan citizens in the spheres of education and health care.

In June 2013, the leaders of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan participated in the ceremony of laying the foundation of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway.

The TAPI gas pipeline project is expected to create 12,000 new jobs and get a profit estimated to $US one billion to Afghanistan. The completion of construction of power plants and other facilities in Lebap and Mary Velayat will contribute to increasing the export of Turkmen electricity to the neighbouring country up to 500 megawatts. In the near future it is planned to build power transmission lines and a number of social facilities, including a maternity clinic, a mosque and an orphan’s home in the border provinces of Afghanistan.
