A trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of Turkmenistan, the Azerbaijan Republic and the Republic of Turkey was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The delegations led by the heads of foreign ministries of the two friendly states: Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Azerbaijan Republic Elmar Mammadyarov and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu – arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the talks.
The agenda of the meeting, held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, focused on priority issues of constructive trilateral partnership that meets mutual interests of the parties as well as the wellbeing goals in regional and global dimension.
A lively exchange of views on key aspects of fruitful intergovernmental cooperation, including the trade, economic, humanitarian and cultural spheres, took place during the meeting. Emphasizing the commitment of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey to a constructive political dialogue, the participants in the talks called for further enhancement of contacts between the foreign ministries of the three countries.
The sides also focused on existing ample opportunities for energy cooperation that has a significant potential. In this context, emphasis was placed on the timeliness and relevance of the international initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan in this sphere, including those aimed at ensuring global energy security as an integral factor of global sustainable development.
The promising areas for cooperation also included the transport sector due to the favourable geographical location of the three countries.
The meeting participants paid attention to the project of Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey transport corridor that could become an integral element of modern regional and international transport infrastructure in the future. The opportunities for cooperation between the three countries within other promising infrastructure projects were also considered.
In conclusion, the sides confirmed that Turkmenistan, the Azerbaijan Republic and the Republic of Turkey were continuously committed to relations of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation and expressed the willingness of the three countries to further promote fruitful partnership for the benefit of all. The foreign ministers of the three countries suggested that the practice of holding regular trilateral meetings on aspects of regional and international cooperation of mutual interest would continue and agreed to hold the next meeting in the Republic of Turkey.
