Turkmen sportsmen won two bronze medals in the international boxing tournament, which finished in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The bronze medallists are the members of Turkmenistan team: Arslanbek Achilov (under 75 kg) and Jakub Meredov (under 56 kg) won the medals. The tournament brought together about 180 athletes from Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Mongolia and other countries of the world, who competed for 10 sets of medals.

Sports commentators noted the good level of training and technique of Arslanbek Achilov. A powerful punch of the Turkmen boxer in the quarterfinals knocked down the experienced athlete from Kazakhstan Abay Tolesh in the middle of the bout.

In the semi-finals A. Achilov fought with another boxer from Kazakhstan Nursultan Zhanabayev: both boxers, who were on equal footing with each other, demonstrated the high sportsmanship. However, judges awarded the victory to the opponent of the Turkmen sportsmen.

Jakub Meredov, a student of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism, won several beautiful victories on his way to the semi-finals. However, our boxer failed to overpower the very strong boxer from Thailand in the decisive bout.

The tournament in Bishkek is of particular importance as it launched a series of international competitions that experts regard as the stages for the qualifying tournaments – the World Cup in Qatar and the Asian Championship in Thailand, in which sportsmen will compete for the benches in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
