Meeting of the Turkmenistan-Austria Intergovernmental Commission

Turkmenistan-Austria Intergovernmental Commission held a regular meeting in Ashgabat. The meeting agenda focused on the identification of new formats for enhancing fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Austria.

The representatives of the friendly country expressed gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the attention to promote the bilateral dialogue and noted with satisfaction that in recent years, the interstate relations were characterized by progressive development, particularly in the trade, economic and humanitarian spheres. Emphasizing the tremendous potential for building up cooperation in a number of priority spheres, the Co-Chairmen of the Commission expressed the willingness of the two countries to further develop the Turkmen-Austrian partnership and identified its promising spheres.

Highly evaluating the results of work done to implement the bilateral agreements achieved earlier, the members of the Commission discussed the ways to enhance cooperation in the spheres of energy, ecology, textile, food, agriculture and construction. Within the framework of the meeting, participants exchanged their views on the opening up opportunities in the context of the mutually beneficial financial and technical partnership and cooperation in the health care sector and pharmaceutical industry. The meeting participants emphasized that the implementation of joint projects in these spheres would be of particular significance for the both countries.

Entrepreneurship was specified among the promising spheres of bilateral cooperation. In this regard, it was underlined the importance of the upcoming Turkmenistan-Austria Business Forum which would help to identify specific steps to widen cooperation in this sphere. The meeting participants also emphasized the importance of promoting fruitful contacts in the tourism industry given that the two countries pay significant attention to this sphere.

Underlining cultural relations as an important aspect of the intergovernmental dialogue, the members of the Commission called for the strengthening humanitarian relations. In this context, the meeting participants considered the possibility of organizing creative forums and other cultural events. Particular attention was also paid to the ways to develop partnership between leading research centres and educational institutions.

In conclusion, the meeting participants expressed belief that the work of the joint commission, during which the common approaches towards establishing a platform for further efficient intergovernmental cooperation were elaborated, would offer a powerful incentive to enhance cooperation in all areas in the interests of the two friendly peoples.
