The practical outcomes of the working trip of the delegation representing Turkmenistan’s tourism industry to Malaysia include the signing of agreements and contracts between tour operators of the two countries. It was preceded by numerous meetings, talks and consultations that began with the business forum which took place at the Malaysian Tourism Business Centre. It provided a platform for presenting the potential of the host country and Turkmenistan in the tourism industry, discussing the aspects of mutually beneficial cooperation and the possibility of joint organisation of travel tours and implementation of other bilateral projects.
The closest contacts were established with Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, which is the executive body responsible for implementing the state policy in the tourism industry. In his interview with TDH Director-General of the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia Mr. Azizan Noordin, the governments of our countries had very similar views on this sphere as a tool for sustainable development of regional territories, international integration and cultural interaction. The meeting between Turkmen and Malaysian representatives of the travel and recreation industries makes it possible to exchange experiences as well as explore new opportunities to increase the influx of tourists to Turkmenistan and Malaysia.
In particular, such segments as travel tours to historical sites that lie on the Great Silk Road and the Turkmen cities with cultural monuments and the exotic tours to the desert will be of particular interest to Malaysian tourists.
The visit programme, which was prepared for the Turkmen delegation so that Turkmen specialists could learn about Malaysia’s tourism industry as much as possible, focused on the best practices of Malaysia in attracting travellers and providing services
The Turkmen delegation visited the iconic tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and Putrajaya that serves as the federal administrative centre of the country, the city of Malacca and the resort island of Langkawi.
In the territorial aspect, the zoning of tourist destinations which allow every traveller make an exciting and memorable tour of the different regions of the country arouses considerable interest.
Meetings with the leading tour operators of Langkawi were held in the town of Kuah. The guests from Turkmenistan told their counterparts about the large-scale work initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the progressive development of the Avaza national tourism zone and ongoing preparations for the 2017 Asian Games, which will take place in Ashgabat. The Asian Games will not only be an important sporting event in the life of the region, but also give a new impetus to promote tourism. The Government of Turkmenistan is therefore making substantial investments to develop infrastructure. The hospitality programme aimed at creating the most favourable conditions for participants and guests of the Asian Games is designed for tourists who will arrive to watch the Games. The high quality of hospitality services is particularly important, and this sphere offers ample opportunities for cooperation with Malaysian experts.
The interaction between tourism business and service infrastructure was a focus of meetings with the top managers of associations, travel agencies and hotels in Langkawi.
“The direct flight between Ashgabat and Kuala Lumpur has a positive impact on the further expansion of business contacts, tourism, cultural and humanitarian exchanges between Turkmenistan and Malaysia,” Assistant Director at Central Asian Division of Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board Norliza Zain says. “We believe that Malaysia can have a good position on the Turkmen market, and Turkmenistan will become a key partner of our country in the region. This highlights the need for advertising and informational work on joint promotion of national tourism products, including in printed publications and online communities and on major international exhibition and congress venues. The work, which will complement and enrich the relations between our countries, has already begun.”
