Tournaments on occasion of the holiday of spring

A number of sports events dedicated to the forthcoming International Women's Day that is celebrated on March 8 took place last week. Among them are the 2015-Turkmen Spring Sport Dance Contest, National Judo Championship and field and track events among labor groups.

The 2015-Turkmen Spring Sport Dance Contest was held at the Ashgabat Sports and Health-Improving Complex. Over 100 contestants at the age of 8 to 25 competed in ten varieties of European and Latin American dances – in particular, slow and Viennese waltz, tango, fast and slow foxtrot, samba, rumba, cha-cha-cha, jive and paso doble.


The tournament organized under the auspices of the Federation of Sport Dance of Turkmenistan was held in our country for the second time. This sports organization was created two months ago with the aim to train Turkmen athletes for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which will be held in the Turkmen capital in 2017.

At present, Turkmen dancers are preparing for the Sport Dance Open Championship, which will be held in Mary Velayat in April. In the near future, the Sport Dance Federation of Turkmenistan plans to bring our athletes to the international sports arena.


Wrestling competitions were held in the administrative center of Mary Velayat. More than 150 judokas from all regions of the country and the Turkmen capital took part in the contest. Sportswomen competed for for medals in two junior age groups.

Representative of the Lebap Velayat team demonstrated the best results - 11 first places. Ashgabat sportswomen won four gld medals. The hosts of the competitions – the Mary velayat team – won one gold medal.

Athletes who demonstrated the best results in the Judo Championship qualification tournaments will be included into the national junior team to represent our country at the international contests – Judo European Cup. Young athletes will participate in judo tournaments in Antalya, Turkey on March 6-8 and in Athens early April.

Track and field events that brought together over 100 sportswomen representing ten teams were held at the Ashgabat Sports Complex. Athletes competed in 60- and 200-metre sprints, long jumps, 4x100-metre relay race and darts.
