Regional expert conference “Issues of peace and stability in the Central Asia and Afghanistan: view from neutral Turkmenistan” was opened in the conference hall of the capital’s hotel “Grand Turkmen”.
Forum was organized by the government of our country with support of Bureau of employee of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization for ties and interaction with the Central Asian countries within the framework of program of events, being held in honor of the Year of neutrality and peace, being observed in the current year in Turkmenistan, as well as on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of constructive relations with this organization within the framework of NATO Program “Partnership for the sake of peace”.
Ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited to our country including UNO, OSCE, UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for the Central Asia, EU Regional Center in Ashgabat were invited for meeting with experts- political scientists, representing the leading scientific centers of strategic researches and diplomacy of France, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Afghanistan and others.
The representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, several ministries and departments, higher educational establishments – International University of the Humanities and Development, Institute of State and Law at the President of Turkmenistan, Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan took part in it from the Turkmen party.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Turkmenistan Sanjay Vadvani, the representative of NATO for ties and interaction with the Central Asian countries A. Vinnikov, who made a speech at the opening of the forum, have underlined that the current meeting is the largest of all events of such type, being held in the Central Asia. The guests have expressed sincere gratitude to the government of Turkmenistan for opportunity to invite experienced experts and discuss major regional problems, including the issues related to the technical and consultative support of Afghanistan in connection with the completion in this country in 2014 of a mission of the International Security Assistance Force.
