A delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the "ITB Berlin-2015" International Tourism Exhibition, which was held in the capital of Germany on March 4-8. The forum that is considered as the largest industry event in the world, annually presents the latest global trends and today’s opportunities in the tourism industry. In the last few years, our country is one of its permanent participants, whose number increases from exhibition to exhibition.
This year «ITB» has brought together more than 10,000 professionals from 188 countries of the world on a wide territory of the «Messe Berlin» Expo-Centre. On the first day of the exhibition the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai together with the representatives of the «ITB Berlin» organizing committee visited a number of pavilions, among them – a Turkmen one. Guests expressed particular interest in the monuments of the ancient history, cultural traditions, resort centres and natural sights of our country underlining that the combination of these tourism resources made the Turkmen land attractive not only for tourists from all around the world but for investors as well.
UNWTO head had an opportunity to get acquainted with the tourism potential of our country during working visits to Turkmenistan in 2013 and 2014. During a meeting with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization noted that UNWTO supported the active state policy in the sphere of tourism and initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader with the aim to protect historical, cultural and natural monuments of the country and develop international cooperation in this field. Mr. Rifai noted that the modern national model of tourism development in Turkmenistan, where the travel industry plays an efficient role in making cultures and peoples closer to each other, can serve as an example for other world countries and deserves international recognition.
During a working visit to our country, UNWTO Secretary-General held a meeting at the State Committee for Tourism of Turkmenistan. The meeting agenda focused on a joint action plan for the next few years.

Having a well-defined vision of the ways of cooperation with the World Tourism Organization, the Turkmen side initiated a number of concrete proposals to build up the fruitful partnership. The Avaza national tourism zone plays an important role in this area. It includes the informative support of the project at the international level and exchange of experience in the sphere of hotel industry, resort infrastructure as well as attraction of foreign investments in development of the young resort infrastructure, etc.
The International Exhibition "Tourism and Travel" is annually held at the Avaza national tourism zone with participation of UNWTO representatives. The conference arranged within the framework of the exhibition focuses on the prospects of development and investment opportunities in the tourism sector of Turkmenistan in the context of trends of the world travel market.
UNWTO forecasts that the tourist flow growth will be observed in Asian countries in the coming decades, which were widely and colorfully presented at the «ITB Berlin-2015".
Leading private enterprises of the tourist industry of our country showcased their colourful stands at the Turkmen pavilion. Among them were "Nurana Ay", "Ovadan Syyahat", "Durdynyyaz", "Ayan" and other companies, whose leaders held fruitful talks with foreign businessmen and representatives of major tourist companies and international agencies with the aim to establish direct mutually beneficial business contacts.
A representative of the State Committee for Tourism of Turkmenistan held a meeting with travel industry experts and colleagues from many countries, including Austria, France, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Lithuania and Latvia that focused on the interaction at the level of national structures. Foreign experts were briefed on the large-scale work on modernization and expansion of the tourism infrastructure in our country that will provide our guests with an opportunity to learn more about the history, culture, customs and traditions, spiritual values of the Turkmen people. They also discussed the possibilities of concluding relevant agreements in the near future.

According to the Statistical Service of the “ITB Berlin-2015" organizing committee, over 170,000 guests, and mostly representatives of business circles of the world, visited the five-day exhibition. 7,000 journalists from 90 countries covered the exposition.
The world largest tourism congress held within the “ITB Berlin-2015" exhibition, which has been held annually since 2004 with participation of market experts, politicians, economists, ecologists. The main topics covered during the 2015 congress were mobile marketing, film tourism, future potential of the industry and trends of its service technologies.
