In these days, traditional international chess tournament “First Saturday” is held in the capital of Hungary – Budapest. The Turkmen sportsmen also take part in it. So, in the contests “Rapid”, our compatriots won 3 medals – 2 gold and a silver that became the highest result among participating teams.
Rapid is one of the disciplines, where only 15 minutes are given for a game with addition of 10 seconds after each move. Here, everything depends on skill to make a decision quickly and correctly. Therefore, we are glad for a fact that three residents of Turkmenistan were without a rival, at that, in both age groups – among adults and juniors.
In male group of participants, master of the international class Maksat Atabayev raised the highest stage of the podium. In the course of the competitions held by the Swiss system in 7 rounds, the student of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan accumulated 6.5 points, having won 6 sets and only in one agreed with drawn game.
Brother of M. Atabayev and one of his main competitors at the national sport arena, international master Yusup Atabayev yielded to the winner of male competitions in the discipline “Rapid” only 0.5 points, having won a silver medal. He won a victory in five games and in two games, made a draw.
The second gold medal in the composition of the Turkmen team was gained by another representative of the chess dynasty of Atabayevs’ family – the sixteen-year old master of FIDE Saparmurat Atabayev, who was without a rival in the group of juniors. Only 5 points were enough for victory of young resident of Turkmenistan. Saparmurat also continues the fight for medals in classic chess competitions, but he has been involved into the group of international masters. After five rounds, our compatriot keeps the first place, having accumulated 3.5 points. It is very good result within 4 rounds till completion of the tournament.
