Turkmenistan-Finland Business Forum

The issues of further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Finland were the main focus of the business forum held at the Mizan Business Centre in Ashgabat. The first meeting with participation of government and business circles of the two friendly countries vividly testifies to the mutual aspiration for development of a constructive dialogue and enhancement of mutually beneficial partnership. Participation of representatives of leading Finnish companies, including Airbus, Wellquip Oy, Defence&Space, Nokia Solutions and Netwoks Oy, Extron, Uponor Infra Ltd, Technology, KPA Unicon, Pemamek Oy Ltd, Vaisala, KPMG Oy Ab as well as Häme and JAMK Universities of Applied Sciences proves the high interest of Finland in widening efficient relations with Turkmenistan that possesses unique natural resources and huge economic potential.

Those speaking during the opening ceremony noted that at present cooperation between Turkmenistan and Finland had been successfully developed. The first meeting of such level - a new page in the history of the interstate relations is of particular significance for Turkmenistan and the Republic of Finland. It opens up wide opportunities to find effective mechanisms to build up mutually beneficial productive collaboration.

Representatives of our country informed forum participants on the achievements and strategic plans of development of our state. The strategy of rapid industrialization and modernization of production industries, government support for private businesses, creation of favourable conditions for successful work of foreign businessmen strengthen the interest of international business circles in establishing close partnership that was vividly illustrated in a film about Turkmenistan demonstrated to forum participants. Speaking during the forum, Director General for the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland Ms. Terhi Hakala expressed deep gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Government of Turkmenistan for every support in efficient organization of the first business forum as well as the cordial welcome and hospitality on the Turkmen land. Speaking about the importance of the meeting between state and private structures of the two countries, the guest underlined its significant role in defining the most attractive spheres of mutual interests given the economic viability, including for long-term prospects. Ms. Terhi Hakala noted that the forum would help to establish a solid basis for the prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Finland.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to Turkmenistan Mr. Niklas Lindquist emphasized the huge potential for building up efficient relations and noted that this meeting would contribute to the growth of volumes of mutual trade and investments, intensification of exchange of experience and technologies in various spheres, development of business relations. The diplomat briefed forum participants on the current status of economy in Finland and specified prospects for development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Finland given the interests of the two countries and peoples. According to the diplomat, the business forum would offer a powerful incentive to boost interstate cooperation.

Forum participants called for intensification of partner relations in the trade and economic spheres, fuel and energy sector, telecommunications, industry, environment protection, financial services, scientific and educational area, high technologies, etc.

Bilateral meetings between the guests from the Republic of Finland and representatives of sectoral ministries and departments and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan focused on establishment of close business relations.
