Turkmen followers of martial arts go on to gladden their supporters with victories at the competitions of international level. This time, masters of the Chinese wushu have distinguished at the Open Championship of Latvia, as well as Thai boxing in the World Cup among students.
… Open Wushu Championship of Latvia taken place recently in Riga is held for the third time. Nearly 150 sportsmen from Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Norway, Poland, Belarus and others took part in the contests. Our country was represented by 10 sportsmen and 8 of them won the awards of highest standard, and two athletes became the owners of silver medals.
At that, in male group of weight class up to 56 kilograms, only residents of Turkmenistan reached the final: the resident of Ashgabat Charygylych Taganglyjov and Shirli Annayev from Bairamali. Charygylych Taganglyjov demonstrated the best technique in the Turkmen final of the Latvian Championship. At the end, he won a gold.
In male group, the medals of the highest standard was gained by Rahat Rahimov (up to 60 kg), Salahetdin Bayramov (up to 65 kg), Gochmurad Jumaniyazov (up to 70 kg), Muhammed Kurbanov (up to 75 kg) and Kemal Sahatov (up to 85 kg). In female team, our compatriot Aynabat Jumamuradova has distinguished. She remained no chance to anybody in fight for “gold” in the weight class up to 48 kg.
The residents of Turkmenistan in the competitions among juniors have gained another two medals – the gold and silver. Bairammurad Babayev raised the highest stage of the podium and Bairambibi Nurmuhammedova got a title of vice-winner.
Such impressive medal indices – 8 gold and 2 silver – became the best as a result of performances of all participating teams of the Open Wushu Championship of Latvia that provided for our combined team the leading positions in unofficial team event.
At present, the Turkmen followers of ancient single combat have to prepare for IX Olympics of martial arts to be held in the twentieth of April in St. Petersburg. The current Olympics will be first held with participation of wushu athletes from Turkmenistan. The final composition of the national team will be determined as a result of the Championship of the country to be held from April 10 to 12 in the administrative center of Dashoguz province.
Concerning the World Cup on Thai boxing then it was organized for the first time. The venue of this contest became the country, where this style of martial arts has been originated – Thailand. Competitions have hosted the wrestlers from 40 countries – Russia, China, USA, Germany, Turkmenistan, Malaysia, Turkey, Morocco, Ukraine and others.
Rasul Rasulov has distinguished among our compatriots. He won a bronze medal in weight class up to 91 kilograms and provided a place on the podium after confident victory in quarterfinals over the Turkish sportsman. One of the strongest in the world masters of Thai boxing blocked a way of R. Rasulov to the final.
Together with other masters of martial arts, R. Rasulov has to prepare for the next World Cup on Thai boxing, which will be also held in Thailand in August of the current year.
