The International Conference on the on the Important Aspects of Efficient and Effective Water Resources Management and Environmental Preservation took place at Mizan Business Centre in Ashgabat on occasion of the upcoming national holiday of Turkmenistan “A Drop of Water – A Grain of Gold”. The forum organized by the Ministry of Water Industry and the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan brought together over 150 scientists and experts from Turkmenistan and foreign countries as well as representatives of authoritative international organisations, leading ministries and departments of our country and mass media.
Speaking during the conference, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe A. Vasilyev, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan Ms. Jacinta Barrins and Deputy Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia F. Klimtchouk underlined that the importance of environmental issues, including the effective use of water resources, has significantly raised today.
Turkmen specialists acquainted forum participants with the ambitious investment projects implemented in the water industry in Turkmenistan, including the projects on construction of water storage reservoirs, hydraulic and land reclamation facilities.
The sectional sessions of the international conference focused on the key issues related to the effective management of water resources, introduction of innovative technologies and the most advanced experience in water management, implementation of large-scale projects in the water industry, including reconstruction of existing water facilities and construction of new ones.
The presentation of a new book by the President of Turkmenistan “Water – the Source of Life and Prosperity” that was published in the Turkmen, English and Russian languages took place at the Turkmen Agricultural University.
Within the framework of the programme of the international conference forum participants will visit the Turkmen Lake Altyn Asyr. The Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) will hold a regular meeting in Ashgabat with participation of heads and specialists of the water industry in Central Asian countries.
