Ashgabat hosted the International Conference “2017 Asian Games and the Role of Turkmenistan in Sport for Development and Peace”.
The conference was held at the National Institute of Sports and Tourism, located next to the Olympic Village that will host the 2017 Asian Games.
The guests to the conference included the delegates of many countries of Asia and Europe, including the United Arab Emirates, China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the United Kingdom, Austria and France.
The Chairman of the V Asian Games Executive Committee briefed forum participants on the on-going work in Turkmenistan in the areas specified by the agenda of the international conference.
Then the floor was given to Vice-President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Mr. Wei Jizhong. Expressing approval and support to the sports policy pursued by the Turkmen state on behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia and underlining the timeless of the measures taken by our country to prepare for the Asian Games, the guest focused on the important mission of sport that unites peoples and nations, the ideological platform of the Olympic movement and its spiritual principles –peace, equality, freedom.
The Vice-President of the Olympic Council of Asia also emphasized the importance of cooperation with the mass media in covering and preparing for the Asian Games.
President of the Asian Dance Sport Federation Mr. Keiji Ukai, Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Mr. Javad Mottaghi, President of the Sambo Union of Asia Alamjon Mullayev, General Secretary of Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee Mr. Yong-Sung Park and Executive Director of Operations Research and Development at Qatar Foundation, a representative of the OCA Mr. Abdulla Al-Mulla spoke during the forum.
The closing presentation of the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan was accompanied by the media presentation of the report on the organizational preparations for the Asian Games, which will take place in September 2017, and the film about the venue of the 2017 Asian Games – the Olympic Village and its infrastructure and facilities. The main arena that will host the 2017 Asian Games opening and closing ceremonies will be put into operation after reconstruction in June 2016.
In the afternoon, conference participants visited the Olympic Village. It will include more than 30 sports facilities. The monorail railway that will run across the huge territory will connect the Olympic Village with other facilities.
The guests highly evaluated the work done and expressed belief that all facilities, which meet international standards and requirements set to major sports objects, would be tested according to the schedule.
Bilateral meetings were arranged between representatives of the Turkmen side and their foreign colleagues.
