Meeting with Korean businessmen

Members of the government delegation of Turkmenistan and businessmen in the Republic of Korea discussed the prospects for cooperation during a round-table meeting in Seoul. Representatives of such world-known companies as LG International Corp., Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd, Dongil Construction, DAEWOO International Corporation, GS Engineering, Halla Corporation, Korea Health Industrial Development, Hyundai Corporation, Hyundai Motor Company, KITA and other companies took part in a business lunch in the banquet hall in the Lotte Hotel.

The fact that the meeting was timed to the state visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Korea, within the framework of which the top level talks took place in Seoul, attached particular status to the round-table discussions.

Meting participants underlined that the open-door policy pursued by President Gurbaguly Berdimuhamedov promoted the particular investment attractiveness of Turkmenistan that was vividly testified by a number of documents on cooperation signed during this visit.

Particular attention during the meeting was paid to implementation of signed Agreements and joint projects, including construction of new facilities at Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries, gas processing plants metallurgical industry, medical industry and other spheres.

Dynamic paces of development of the Turkmen economy as well as high and sustainable GDP growth make market in our country more attractive for Korean companies. A modern foundation of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Korea was laid within the framework of the visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Korea in 2008. The partnership between the two countries has significantly enhanced during this period. Within the last years, the trade turnover between our countries has increased as much as 10 times.

Rich hydrocarbon and other natural resources of Turkmenistan and modernization of the industrial sphere create favourable conditions for building up cooperation. Representatives of the delegation of our country underlined the interest of Turkmenistan in implementation of joint projects in high-tech industry based on processing of local raw materials, particularly in the oil and gas industry, textile industry, cotton industry, power industry and other industries. Particular attention was paid to the cultural and humanitarian cooperation, particularly in the spheres of science, education, IT-technologies.

Korean businessmen expressed their interest in building up cooperation in such areas as environment, construction, education, transport, communication and alternative energy sources. Putting forward a number of specific proposals, Korean partners confirmed their willingness to provide the most advanced scientific and industrial developments for implementation of joint projects and train qualified specialists for the Turkmen economy.

Meeting participants called for increasing the volume and widening the bilateral trade turnover, particularly through involving small and medium-size businesses in mutual trade.

Upon conclusion of the meeting, members of the Turkmen delegation visited Changdeokgung Palace Complex.
