Specialists of “Turkmengeologiya” State Corporation carry out purposeful work on exploration and prospecting of hydrocarbon deposits on the whole territory of the country. Exploration program included the scientifically based trends of geological prospecting works on preparation of oil and gas projects for short-, medium- and long-term prospect. They involve two-dimensional and three-dimensional seismic survey, areal gravitational exploration, geologic-geochemical methods of investigation, as well as deep prospect and parametric drilling aimed at finding of new accumulations and growth of hydrocarbon reserves.
It is worth mentioning that the prospects of opening of new hydrocarbon deposits, and mainly liquid, are connected with Pliocene and Miocene oil-and-gas bearing complex of South Caspian depression. It is continued intensive exploration works on the territory of Kopetdag sag, central and eastern regions of the country.
Availability of unique reserves of natural gas in the Eastern Turkmenistan was approved with opening of new large deposits in carbonate sediments of upper Jurassic period of right-bank of Amyderya and Murgap hollow. On the grounds of realized geological prospecting works, it was proved the availability of huge explored reserves and prospective resources.
The task of present day is to expand the geological prospecting works aimed at detection of deposits of oil, condensate and gas, containing no hydrogen sulfide.
Earlier, the geological parties carried out the exploration of underground stowage of liquid hydrocarbons particularly in the west of the country – in seaside area, and then today, the geography of exploration considerably extended its frames. In the central part of Garagum, near “Madar” and “Yolakly” deposits, it was prepared bridgehead for test drilling. With a view of wider study of prospective areas for liquid hydrocarbons in the Central Turkmenistan, it is planned to hold seismic exploration with use of modern 3D-equipment in the western slope of Bahardok monocline, which has the prospects to find oil and condensate. At the same time, in the eastern slope of Bahardok monocline – near Kumbet and Karajaovlak group of deposits, it was revealed only gas deposits.
At present, the area of exploration moved to the southwest territories of the country. It is this place, where the geologists expect to find new hydrocarbon deposits in Miocene and Mesozoic sediments. For detection of prospective reserves of raw material in southwest part of the country, particularly in the region of volcanic formation Ak patlawuk, it is planned to start the drilling of 5.5 thousand-meter deep prospect well for “disclosure” of beds in Miocene and Mesozoic sediments. Modern seismic 3D researches have been realized in the region of North Goturdepe. Then, it will be also started the exploratory drilling.
To date, there are over 200 deposits of various hard minerals and hydromineral raw material prepared for commercial development. The depths of Turkmenistan are particularly rich in deposits of different mineral salts – common, potassium, sulfate and magnesium. Geologists studied available possibilities and gave for commercial development to the Ministry of Industry, “Turkmenavtoyollary”, “Turkmennebitgazgurlushyk”, “Turkmenhimiya” State Concerns and other departments the deposits with approved reserves of quartzose sandstones for glass production and basalt raw material for production of mineral fiber and articles from this. On the basis of these natural stowage, it is planned the construction of the enterprises for production and processing of minerals. Moreover, Koitendag prospecting expedition of “Turkmengeologiya” State Corporation developed the production of limestone of “Tagara” deposit for production of facing materials.
