A two-day seminar on migration flows in Central Asia took place in the Turkmen capital. The seminar organized by the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) brought together representatives of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and national media.
Those speaking during the forum focused on the world and national practices in addressing the problems of refugees and stateless persons, the role of international organisations, development of multifaceted cooperation and coordinated efforts in this area, establishment of the system of migrants’ in-move and border control that will ensure the necessary level of efficient management over migration flows.
Among the important and constructive steps taken by our country in this regard, seminar participants noted that in order to fulfill the obligations under the Conventions "On the Legal Status of Refugees" and "On the Status of Stateless Persons" as well as enjoy all the rights of refugees and stateless persons residing on the territory country, the President of Turkmenistan issued a Decree approving new forms of identity and travel documents for stateless persons and refugees and a residence permit. These documents fully meet the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) standards. In general, all these measures serve as a positive experience in the context of the practical implementation of the international humanitarian law.
