Regional meeting of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Deputies of the Parliament of Turkmenistan, representatives of several ministries and departments of the country, international organizations accredited to Ashgabat, officials of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of CIS countries, Afghanistan, Iran, Georgia, Latvia and Estonia took part in the representative forum.
Announcing the agenda of meeting, Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Mr. Elhadj As Sy underlined in his speech the importance of the tasks set today before Federation and national societies. The key one is the development of strategy on review of control system, taking into account special work conditions of NS.
The head of International Organization noted that with utmost support of the head of state and government of Turkmenistan, the National Red Crescent Society (NRCS) makes worthy contribution to the realization of national programs, which main tasks are the securing the social protection of citizens, public health protection, upbringing of young generation in the spirit of the best traditions of the Turkmen people - charity, sympathy and compassion for neighbors. Being guided in its activity with basic principles of International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent – humanism, neutrality, independence, voluntariness, unity and universality, the NRCST arranges its work in the context of priorities of the state policy of Turkmenistan and strategy of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Within the framework of the forum, its participants have been familiarized with activity of the national societies. It was presented the concepts of review of the legal basis, basic principles in the sphere of implementation of humanitarian activity and others. In particular, it was noted that in all stages of its development the National Society of Turkmenistan realized the ideals of charity, protection of life and health of human being. In the prosperous epoch of the powerful state, the NRCST follows indigenously high humane traditions of the Turkmen people and represents with honor its country in the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Final document of the Regional meeting of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies became “Agreement between Government of Turkmenistan and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on legal position of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Turkmenistan”, which will become the legal platform of the activity of the National Red Crescent Society in Turkmenistan.
Upon completion of the meeting, its participants expressed the confidence in absolute success of constructive humanitarian dialogue in general interests.
