UN General Assembly approves the resolution on the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality

The 69th session of the UN General Assembly adopted the Resolution on the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan that was supported by 193 countries.

The Resolution recognizes the crucial importance of the neutral status of Turkmenistan in strengthening peace and security in the region, our country’s achievements in building up friendly mutually beneficial relations at the international arena. Adoption of the document once again testifies to the support of the permanent neutral status of Turkmenistan by the international community.

The document also supports our country’s initiatives aimed at further development of cooperation in Central Asia and the Caspian region. The Resolution spotlights the positive influence of the economic and geo-economical aspects of the Turkmen neutrality on the regional development and, in this regard, the international community welcomes Turkmenistan’s initiatives on the stable transit of energy and creation of reliable transport and communication corridors.

The Resolution recognizes the positive role of Turkmenistan in providing humanitarian aid to countries and peoples in emergency situations.

The Resolution of the General Assembly also welcomes the decision of the Turkmen Government to declare 2015 the Year of Neutrality and Peace and to host an international conference on the theme “Policy of neutrality: international cooperation for peace, security and development”, in December 2015.
