Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon held a meeting with specialists of the UN agencies accredited in our country as well as representatives of public organisations in the United Nations Office in Turkmenistan.
Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon also visited the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia. During a press conference for numerous foreign and Turkmen journalists, the UN Secretary-General underlined the particular significance of work of the UN Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat that plays an important role in addressing problems and strengthening the climate of confidence and mutual respect in the region.
Within the years of its work, the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia has become a crucial platform for constructive dialogue between the United Nations Organisation and Central Asian countries in a number of fundamental areas, including water and energy issues, economic and social development, the fight against drug trafficking and international terrorism. It was noted that choosing Ashgabat as a venue for the Regional Centre’s headquarters had vividly proved the recognition of the high international authority of Turkmenistan and its peace-loving policy.
In the evening, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave an official dinner in honour of the distinguished guest, at which the Turkmen leader and the UN Secretary-General exchanged speeches.
