International University of the Humanities and Development is not only youngest higher educational establishment of Turkmenistan, but also the first, which started the education on the program for training of undergraduate studies in English on a paid basis after year long training at language training branch.
In the last academic year, it was held the first intake of 280 students for language training. Those, who successfully passed all competitive tests, have deservedly gained the status of first-year students. In the near future, newly brought to light owners of student’s cards from among the entrants, freely knowing English and selected as a result of entrance examinations, will join them. In total, the present intake of students comes to 300 persons.
Today, like in all higher educational institutions, a particular lively atmosphere reigns at the university: here it is accepted the documents from new group of potential owners of the status of students of language branch and first-year students of 14 directions of training of bachelors.
Despite of its short biography, the International University of the Humanities and Development is already popular among entrants, and it is to no small degree caused by fact that it is this Turkmen higher educational establishment, which became a part of the global initiative of the United Nations.
In June of this year, the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization Pan Gi Mun, who was in Turkmenistan on official visit, visited the International University of the Humanities and Development. The main event of that significant meeting was the assignment to the UN Secretary General of a rank of the Honorable Doctor of the International University of the Humanities and Development.
The high guest, in turn, has conveyed to the International University of the Humanities and Development the special certificate, certifying its joining to the initiative of the United Nations Organization “Interaction with the academic community” (UNAI), which is aimed at expansion of cooperation with higher educational institutions in a context of support of the goals of the United Nations.
To date, more than 900 high schools from over 100 countries of the world and nearly 40 academic networks have joined already to this initiative of UNAI. As to the International University of the Humanities and Development - the first Turkmen higher educational establishment, which has become a part of the UN Initiative United Nations “Interaction with the academic community”, then, this honorable status is considered as the foundation to long-term cooperation with the United Nations Organization and UNAI members.
Joining to UNAI will allow the higher educational establishment to exchange with the organizations - members of this unique in own way international community the perspective ideas of global interest, assisting the expansion of potential of systems of higher education, intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, maintenance of peace all over the world.
It is remarkable that only within a year, the University established its own traditions. Several clubs on interests were created at the University. Among them – “Spelling Bee” (literally - a pronunciation on letters), “Conversation Club” (a colloquial circle), “Discussion Club” (discussions and debate on various themes), “Drama Club” (a theatrical circle) and others. It is significant that even in sports and creative circles, the supporters of a healthy life-style and active participants of amateur performances communicate with each other in English.
On Saturdays, after studies, the University organizes “Movie Time” - viewing of the best world films in English. It is regularly held various competitive events. For example, such, as review of posters on a theme “2015 - Year of neutrality and peace”, exhibitions of works of needlework, fairs and festivals of cuisines of the world, competitions “Miss University” and “Mister University”. Among constant event - the actions directed to the prevention of negative tendencies in the youth environment, propagation of healthy life-style.
Within the academic year, whole many-sided student's life was covered on pages of the high school newspaper “Student Horizon”, which publications were prepared not only by the future journalists covering international affairs, but also representatives of other directions of training.
