The 34th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, held in the capital of Turkmenistan, focused on the preparations for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which will be held in Ashgabat in 2017.
The representatives of the International Olympic Committee, presidents of international federations, steering committees of the previous and upcoming Asian Games, including the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Dayanch Gulgeldiev presented their reports on the final day of the meeting. Dayanch Gulgeldiev underlined that given the accumulated experience, the further process of the preparation for the 2017 Asian Games would be speeded up significantly so that this grandiose sports forum would become an unforgettable event for many sports fans from many countries of the world.
The elections of the country to host the XXIX Summer Asian Games in 2022 took place during the session. As was predicted by many observers, the Chinese city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province was confirmed as the host of the 2022 Asian Games.
Upon completion of the 34th OCA General Assembly, the forum delegates visited the National Institute for Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan, the Specialized Chess and Checkers School of Ashgabat Sports Committee, the Winter Sports Complex of the State Committee for Sports, the Olympic Village and other sports facilities.
Summing up the session, all delegates of the 34th OCA General Assembly were unanimous in that all newly built facilities as well as the sports objects under construction in the Olympic Village in Ashgabat satisfied the high requirements of the international standards.
