At the 59th session of General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency held in these days in Vienna (Republic of Austria), the members of this organization unanimously decided Turkmenistan to be a part of IAEA.
Representatives of IAEA member-states have appreciated the adherence of Turkmenistan to principles of non-distribution of nuclear weapons all over the world, in particular, in the Central Asian region, having noted an initiative position of our country and its ponderable contribution to common efforts on maintenance of peace and safety. At the meeting, it was also declared the readiness of our country to fulfill all undertaken obligations in connection with membership in IAEA, to operate according to the goals and principles of the UN Protocol.
As it is known, in May of this year, during visit to the Republic of Austria, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has met with the General Director of International Atomic Energy Agency Jukija Amano, who has underlined the interest of organization he heads in further strengthening of the interaction established with Turkmenistan.
In the context of constructive partnership of the Turkmen state with this organization, which earlier have already signed the Agreement on application of guarantees in connection with Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and Additional Protocol to the Agreement, IAEA delegation in January of current year has visited Ashgabat, which purpose - expansion of bilateral interaction.
Our country actively participates in the international efforts on development of the balanced decisions of pressing issues of the global agenda. As it is known, Turkmenistan was the initiator of Resolution related to the role of reliable and stable transit of energy bearers and transport-transit corridors in maintenance of the international cooperation and sustainable development, which have been accepted by the UN General Assembly.
At the session of Elders’ Council of Turkmenistan taken place on September 10, the nation leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made special emphasis on necessity of careful and rational attitude to energy resources. Thereupon, it has been underlined that in spite of the fact that our state possesses colossal reserves of natural gas, in accordance with the program of industrial development of the country until 2030, we will finish the work on diversification of export of hydrocarbon resources to foreign countries after realization of the gas pipeline project Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India and projects connected with deliveries of Turkmen natural gas to the European states. For rational use of natural resources of our country, the modern gas-processing plants and other enterprises will be constructed. In this year, it was started the construction of a series of such structures.
