International book fair in Turkmenistan

The X Anniversary International Book Fair and scientific conference “The Book is the Path to Cooperation and Progress” was held in the Turkmen capital. The specialized forum organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan has become an authoritative international platform to showcase the achievements of national and world book industry and the printing art.


Over 140 representatives of publishing houses, printing companies, business and literary circles from the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Italy, Republic of Korea, Iran, India, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and other countries arrived in Ashgabat. The delegations included well-known writers, translators, scientists, illustrators, journalists as well as specialists from government agencies and major research and educational structures in this industry, including the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, the University of Illinois, Ivan Fedorov Moscow State University of Printing Arts, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the information and cultural centres at the U.S. Embassy and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.


The spacious halls at the Sergi Kosgi Exhibition Centre in Ashgabat hosted the exhibition. The colourfully decorated pavilions showcasing new products of book publishing and printing industries interspersed with the stands of the manufacturers of printing equipment and auxiliary materials and the venues for presentations, meetings and business talks.


“The Book is the Path of Cooperation and Progress” scientific conference organized in the framework of the International Book Fair brought together representatives of publishing circles, higher educational institutions, libraries and printing industry, writers and journalists in the conference hall of the Exhibition Centre. The conference participants learned more about the achievements in the publishing industry of Turkmenistan and other countries, the practices in introducing the most advanced technologies in the production of books and other printed products, data transfer electronic networks and e-book distribution.

An interested exchange of views focused on the ways of establishing close partnership relations between relevant agencies in training specialists for the publishing and printing industry, translation practices and library service and artistic exchange.


A meeting with Turkmen and foreign writers and poets dedicated to the new books “Turkmen Culture” and “Baghshi – the Harbingers of Happiness of the People” by the Turkmen leader took place at the Exhibition Centre.

The presentation of the national exposition of the Russian Federation showcasing new books from over 30 publishing companies and editorial offices was arranged o the first day of the International Book Fair.
