The members of the Turkmen government delegation are taking part in the international events and debates on topical issues, held in the framework of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly. The main topics include the post-2015 development agenda, adopted by the world leaders at the Sustainable Development Summit.
The 39th Annual Meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the Group of 77 and China – the largest intergovernmental organisation of developing nations that acts within the UN and its agencies – was held on September 24. The Group of 77 aims its activities to promote trade and economic, financial and technical cooperation, including in such fields as industry, agriculture, education and science. Turkmenistan attaches great importance to searching and elaborating new approaches and forms of cooperation on topical issues of world politics and economy, including within major international organisations and associations.
The members of the Turkmen delegation had a meeting with Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Cristina Gallach and Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women) Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.
The members of the Turkmen delegation participated in a number of major high-level events that took place in the framework of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly on September 26. These included the High Level Panel Discussion on Social Harmony for Sustainable Development: Promoting Understanding and Respect in a Time of Intolerance and the Interactive Dialogue – Fostering Sustainable Economic Growth and Transformation and Promoting Sustainable Consumption and Production, the meetings on Food Security in the Post-2015 Development Agenda and Launching the Technology Facilitation Mechanism for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
The UN General Assembly provided an authoritative platform for deeper integration of Turkmenistan into the world civilization processes, as we are not only interested in international best practices, but also we have something to share so as to contribute to collaborative efforts to achieve the new sustainable development goals which will lead the world to a safer, more prosperous and fair future.
On September 27, the representatives of the Turkmen side will take part in the High Level Panel Discussion on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals Related to Water. Another representative event scheduled for September 27 is the high-level Global Leaders’ Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment: A Commitment to Action.
The representatives of Turkmenistan will take part in the Senior Officials Meeting of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process. The meeting will provide a platform for discussing a new agenda for regional cooperation within the Istanbul process aimed at assisting Afghanistan to achieve peace, stability and development. Central Asia the role of neighbouring Turkmenistan in the economic recovery of Afghanistan is enhanced.
Actively using the status of positive neutrality, Turkmenistan has put forward the proposals for the recovery of Afghanistan to the United Nations for consideration. These include the proposal to hold the International Forum on Security and Cooperation in Central Asia in Ashgabat in 2016. As an active participant in the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action, Turkmenistan stands ready to host the 7th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference of Afghanistan in 2017.
