On the National Flag Day, when the country was celebrating the national holiday the Turkmen alpinists ascended to the highest mountain peak in the country, Ayrybaba. It has become a tradition for the Agama mountain climbing club to hold this patriotic action in February. The action was organized with the assistance of specialists of the Koytendag Reserve of the Ministry of Nature Protection.
The mountain climbing troops landed near the Ayrybaba peak. After several days of intensive trainings the mountain climbers went on a journey from their camp located at a height of over 2,000 metres in the picturesque mountain locality amongst juniper woodlands and high snowdrifts. The participants in the ascent to the summit were over twenty alpinists and journalists.
The culmination came after long hours of ascending the snow-capped rocks as the snowfall has been heavy this year. The National Flag of our Motherland was raised at the highest peak in Turkmenistan at a height of 3,131.00 metres above the sea level.
Valeriy Kotvin, the leader of the Agama mountain climbing club said many young climbers, who had mastered their skills by climbing the steep slopes of the Kopetdag Mountains, were participating in this hiking expedition. It was their first ascent to the highest peak of the country. These actions help to foster love for the Motherland, teach youth overcome difficulties and improve sportsmanship. Some participants of this patriotic action may raise the Flag of Turkmenistan on other highest peaks of the world.
By the way, the Agama Club has organized many hiking expeditions. The readers can find the detailed reports on the club’s activities on the web-site of Turkmen mountain climbers.
