Turkmen sportsmen have achieved good results at the International Fencing Tournament among juniors and adults held recently in Turku (Finland). Our compatriots have won gold (male group) and one bronze (female group) medals in saber competitions.
About 350 sportsmen from more than 30 countries took part in the tournament. As a matter of fact, it became one of important stages of preparation before forthcoming qualifying competitions, where it will be played for permits to the Olympic Games of 2016 in Brazil. Competitions passed in rigid and uncompromising fight, where our compatriots have shown high skill.
The award of the higher test was won by the candidate for the master of sports Serdar Bayramov, who during duels has not suffered any defeat. In a group stage of tournament, where contenders battle among themselves up to five exact pricks, our fencer has confidently won against two representatives of the hosts, two Swedish and the Danish sportsman. It has defined for him an unconditional first place in group and provided an exit in final stage, where the further fight is held on the Olympic system - on knockout.
Here, S. Bayramov also was out of competition, having eliminated on the way to the final all contenders (two sportsmen from Finland and one from Denmark). In a solving duel, he has crossed again sabers with the representative of host team of tournament – Kimmo Pentikyaynen, who despite the big support of fans, nevertheless, could not outplay our fencer. Eventually, Serdar Bayramov has won in the final a beautiful victory with score 15:13 and gained the main prize of competitions.
His performances on the international sports arena the representative of the Central Sports Club of Army of the Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan started in 2012, and then he has won the first gold medal. It has occurred during rating tournament in the Netherlands, where S. Bayramov became the winner in team competitions. Last year, the reigning champion of Turkmenistan and owner of the Cup of country could distinguished three times, having won gold, silver and bronze medals at the International Tournaments held correspondingly in Macedonia, Sweden and Turkey.
The current victory in Finland will give S. Bayramov additional stimulus in fight for the right to participate in Olympic Games -2016. For example, in the course of the qualifying Asian Championship to be held at the beginning of next year in China: for gaining of the most honorary rank “Olympian”, it will be necessary to be among prize-winners.
Bronze award at the International Tournament in Turku as a part of Turkmen national team was gained by the eleventh-form schoolgirl of the Ashgabat comprehensive school № 36 Aylar Melikova. In fight for exit from group she has held 5 duels in which course she gained 3 convincing victories over sportswomen from Finland, Sweden and Great Britain.
Not without effort having overcome in 1/8 final the fencer from Denmark (15:13), in next stage, A. Melikova has met even more terrible competitor – Emmi Ridenfeld from Finland, who was considered as one of the main applicants for a victory, being the leader of her team. But this fact has not confused our sportswoman, who has won a victory with the score 15:14.
In semi-final, A. Melikova had to meet with one of the leaders of world sports, participant of many World Championships and Cups of planet Karen Bail from Denmark. Having done all the best in previous duel with the Finnish fencer, our compatriot in a persistent duel has conceded to the eminent Danish athlete with a small difference in score (12:15).
Aylar took part in competitions of the international level more than once, but the present bronze award in sabre competitions is debut for her. Before, she differed only in confrontations on swords: at the International Tournament of 2014 in Macedonia A. Melikova has won “silver” in team championship, and in competitions in Macedonia, she has risen on the third step of a podium in individual event. At present, our sportsmen prepare for the Cup of Turkmenistan, which results allow forming the national team for participation in the large international tournaments. Nearest of them is the stage of World Cup to be held at the end of November in Ireland.
