Turkmenistan – EU: cooperation in the sphere of ecology and energy efficiency

A course of lectures and training sessions organized within the framework of the joint project of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan and the European Union “Support to the introduction of Sustainable Development policies - Rational use of natural resources in the energy-environment sectors in Turkmenistan” focuses on development of the strategic assessment of the industrial activities’ impact on environment. The course is held at the Academy of Civil Service under the President of Turkmenistan.

International experts in the sphere of sustainable energy and large transnational projects on the rational use of natural and hydrocarbon resources Peter Optitz (Germany) and Nina Stoyanova (Bulgaria) arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the event.

The purpose of the educational cycle is to raise awareness of the university professors and students of the Academy on the essence of the environmental assessment given the strategic prospects of the environmental impact and learn more about the practices of leading foreign companies, the best international and national experience in the introduction of advanced technologies and innovations in the fields of energy saving and environmental safety.

The priority tasks on improvement of the measures to preserve the biological diversity in accordance with the international commitments will be discussed within the framework of the session. Particular attention will be paid to increasing the energy efficiency in industry, particularly in the leading sectors of the Turkmen economy such as oil and gas, petrochemical, textile and construction spheres as well as agro-industrial complex.

International consultants will present the experience of the leading countries in the European Union, including Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Norway on the use of non-waste technologies and renewable energy sources in various spheres of industrial production.

Those speaking during the training underlined the positive experience of our country in the use of the system of environmental and energy management in accordance with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 international standards. The most advanced and improved from the environmental point of view technologies are introduced and the measures are taken with the aim to improve the efficiency of control over the purity of the atmosphere and environment, the system of environmental standards and requirements set to factories and social facilities under construction are introduced in all sectors of the national economy.
